THE ROUTE
A homecoming shoot after twelve years working in China: 21,000 kilometres in 71 days, St. John's, Newfoundland to Victoria, BC, in the summer of 2016. Riders Ryan Pyle and Lu Fei rode; Chad and camera operator Daniel Milton followed, filming for Travel Channel China in cooperation with Destination Canada.
THE WORK
Motorcycles as the storytelling device — 'a nice way to share the feeling of travelling on the open road.' Drone, gimbal and time-lapse coverage cut both for broadcast and for Chinese social platforms, where landscape has to work with the sound off, in a feed, in seconds.
LOGISTICS
A cross-continental route plan balancing seasons, light and distance; deliverables versioned for Chinese platforms and formats — and, as CBC noted, a DP seeing much of his own country for the first time.
THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO SEE THIS COUNTRY THAN BY ROAD.
